There are plenty of great free systems available online, such as Hootsuite and Tweetdeck, which allow you to easily keep up to date with your followers. Both also offer the advantages of iPhone Apps, so you can communicate while on the go.

But while both Hootsuite and Tweetdeck work great as Twitter communication tools to your existing followers, they lack a little when it comes to gaining new followers. There is no automatic way of gaining new targeted followers, so while you can find new followers by keyword tracking, you still need to manually add them yourself, which is no big deal, but can be time consuming.

If you want a system specifically for Twitter marketing, including an automated system for gathering new followers, there are two major players that provide these services, Tweet Adder and Market Me Tweet.

I have reviewed both systems and both have their strengths and weaknesses, which I would like to share with my readers.

TweetAdder

Tweetadder is a very easy system to grasp, even if you are a novice.
But when I say easy, don’t think that means it is small on features! TweetAdder’s system is designed purposely as a tool to attract new followers, but at the same time has all the logistics built in to prevent you being busted for spamming, with it’s unique follower ration system. This ensures you don’t attempt to follow or follow back too many people above the acceptable ration set by Twitter, which in turn avoids the possibility of having your account suspended.

Tweetadder is not so much a day to day Twitter App, but more designed for marketing, allowing you to schedule Tweets weeks, even months in advance.
The system also has automated features you can set up so when you log in it automatically goes to work gathering new targeted followers, replying to new recent followers, sending out your pre-scheduled Tweets!

All up a very good system!

The downfalls of TweetAdder: If you have multiple accounts it can be quite expensive to set up, with 5 profiles costing you $74 USD, though this is a 1 off price, so no monthly or reoccurring fees, and a lifetime license so you get free unlimited software updates and support.

The one tool that Tweetadder lacks is the ability to brand your Tweets like Market Me Tweet does. At the bottom of easy Tweet, rather than saying the software you send it from and giving them credit, it would be great to have your own web address which links to your website, allowing people to click directly to you. If you have thousands of people viewing your Tweets each day, without this feature you are missing out on a lot of website traffic potential.

The TweetAdder system is very easy to learn the basic ins and outs on, and you will find within 20 minutes you are successfully gathering new targeted followers.

Market Me Tweet

Market Me Tweet is another good system when it comes to Twitter marketing tools. As mentioned above, the big plus of using Market Me Twitter is the ability to brand your Tweets by adding a link to the bottom of each Tweet, with a direct link to your website or blog.

The system is a very nice looking system which runs well through the Adobe Air app, (so you will need this loaded first).

before trying out both TweetAdder and Market Me Tweet I took a lot of time thinking about which system would ideally work the best.
TweetAdder has the advantage that you can download and ‘try before you buy’, which is a huge plus. To me this is saying they have nothing to hide.

Unfortunately Market Me Tweet doesn’t provide a trial version to test out, and their website looked nice so I decided to pay the $15 a month basic plan and give it a go.

What had me drawn to Market Me Tweet was the ability to be able to easily add new followers through geo-targeted followers, the ability to brand your own messages, plus it works as a TWitter client as well, though unfortunately they let the system down with no iPhone App or Tweet stats like Hootsuite offers (for Free!), and the ability to have multiple accounts at no additional cost.

At first it seemed a good system , allowing easy enough download and initial setup, (though Tweetadder is easier).

The setting up of accounts was also easy, though initially setting up the Branding was a little challenging but if you view their great easy to understand step by step online video tutorial you quickly understand it, and you’re on your way to branded Tweets!

So far so good! Until I tried to add new followers…

I went through the information provided on their online tutorial, for their Marketing part of the Market Me Tweet system, setting up target keywords, etc, and then click the Follow Users button and selected my account to attract followers, but nothing but a black panel happens, with a Follow All button next to it. As this is the ‘results’ page I am guessing two things..their are no results available or the functionality is busted. So I tried another account, and another.. same deal.
I then tried the same enquiry on both TweetAdder and Hootsuite with loads of targeted potentials, so I think there is an issue on Market Me Tweet for this function.

I spent about 40 minutes trying all sorts of things to see if I was doing anything wrong. the time spent included reviewing their online forum (which is also their support…they offer no live chat or email support), but their forum is very limited in technical issues or setup of this function.

To get support you have to register for their forum which I did, but still can’t log in, and no support verification email was received, so I am a little stuck.

Another issue is an API login box keeps popping up, but I have no idea why and it doesn’t say which account it is for. The only option to prevent this is remove all your accounts from the system, disconnect your Market Me Tweet APi from each Twitter account and then redo this process and see if it fixes it. Again, no support available on the API issues.

TweetAdder vs Market Me Tweet?

So which is better? While Market Me Tweet has great potential, I think it lacks the tutorials required to get people up and running, and the fact their is no live chat support or trial version is a real bummer for a paid service such as theirs.
The bonus is they do offer a 30 day money back guarantee.

TweetAdder wins hands down as far as marketing systems go, but you really still need to use it in conjunction with Hootsuite or even Twitter itself to converse with followers on a personal level.
