Website traffic is the most important aspect of any online business.
Without the stream of visitors you have no business!

There are a number of ways to accelerate the amount of traffic your website can achieve, such as search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising.

But one sure fire way to drive traffic to your website or blog is by creating a ‘Link Wheel’.

A Link Wheel is a system created to generate a network of links pointing back to your main website, which create a higher page rank for your site as the search engines see your website as a popular site because you have a group of related and well keyworded sites and popular social bookmarking sites pointing back directly to you.

This may all sound a little complex, so I have created some simple graphics to show you the 4 simple steps to creating a Link Wheel formula that will hopefully drive massive amounts of traffic to your website in no time.

To successfully create a Link Wheel as shown below does take some time and patience. It’s not a fast process, but as they say, there is no quick way to ultimate success, but hopefully this will help you understand and speed up the process of creating your Link Wheel.

Step 1
Once you have your website up and running, search engine optimized and submitted to the search engines, you need to create a series of 8 microsites.
These microsites work best if they have their own domain names that relate to the content of the master website.
For example, if your main website sells car parts for classic cars and your domain name is your business name, then purchase 8 domain names relating to this, such as classiccarparts.com, uniqueautoparts.com, classicpartsforcars.com…you get the idea!
You can buy the domain names fairly cheaply at Godaddy.com for around $11 a domain name.
You also need to now create the 8 microsites. The easiest way to do this is using WordPress, but if you are not a web guru and have no idea how to install WordPress there is a couple of solutions.

Solution 1. Since you need to host 8 websites, the easiest way to set up your blogs is to purchase a hosting account with Hostgator. Hostgator’s cpanel allows you to simply click a button and the WordPress blog is created for you. No mucking around setting up databases, etc. It is done for you in less than a few minutes!
And as you need to set up 8 sites you obviously need them hosted. Rather than paying a hosting account for each site which could cost a thousand dollars or so, Hostgator allows you to purchase the one account for around $8 per month, which you can then split into 8 (or more) sites for no extra cost!

Solution 2. If you already have a hosted account you can go to Fiverr.com and have someone set up your WordPress account for $5 per site. You can sit back and relax and someone will do it all for you!

Make sure each microsite links back to the main website. This starts building your link structure, making it easy for the search engines to list you.

NOTE: Don’t add links FROM your main site to the microsites, only from the microsites TO the main site. This prevents the search engines from busting you for possibly spamming their search engines and earning you a blacklisting.

So once you have your main site and 8 microsites set up, each with their own domain, it should look something like this:

Step 2.
Now you need to add content to the sites in order for them to be also picked up on the search engines.
Create about 4 pages for each of the 8 sites, and make sure the content on each page is keyword specific relating to your main product, and the pages are named well.
For example, titles for the pages such as car-parts-for-classic-cars.html
If you are using WordPress make sure you turn on the Permalink setting. this turns the page numbers into search engine friendly titles. See the setting example below and set your custom permalink on each wordpress site the same as this for best results:

Your Link Wheel should now look something like this below:

Each page doesn’t have to be a huge page of text and images. In fact just a couple of decent paragraphs of well written product-related content per page is all you need.
If you are not great at writing, don’t steal or copy content from other sites. The search engines could catch you for duplicate content and drop you from their searches. Again, go to Fiverr.com and you will find there are people willing to write the articles you require for $5 per article, or search content writers online and you will find cheap packages available.

Now add in a few internal links from related keywords in a few of the pages, pointing them back to each of the other microsites. try not to get two microsites pointing to each other or again Google may pick you up for spamming and your cover is blown! Follow my graphic below, which shows you the correct way of linking each of your sites for best results.

Step 3.
You’re almost there!
Now comes the real dynamic part to the process.
You want to get all your sites and pages listed on as many search engines and social bookmarking sites as you can.
The graphic below shows just a few of the most popular ones to link to. By linking to these will boost not only your page rank but it will attract other members to follow you and link through to your website.
Because many of these sites have so many people already listed on them they have a good page rank already. When you get all your microsites listed on them as well, this boosts up the page rank and popularity of each site, and in turn boosts your main website immediately.
Remember, the microsites aren’t designed to be selling anything, they are purely to generate traffic back to your main website through optimization and link building. Of course you can always add a banner on each microsite to promote and drive traffic to your main site.

Sites such as StumbleUpon and Hubpages work as their own microsites and social bookmarking sites, so you need to create accounts on each one for your pages. This can take a lot of time.
But an easier way is to go to OnlyWire or LinksAlpha and create one account which will post your pages to all these sites and more. You still have to create the initial accounts for each site, but it is all done through LinksAlpha and Onlywire, saving a lot of time.

You have now created your Link Wheel!
Now sit back and watch the traffic start rolling in to your website!

Every website or blog owner wants to drive traffic to their website. After all, no matter how nice your site looks, without visitors tour website is not worth a dime to your business.

You can pay an SEO ‘expert’ hundreds of dollars for a promise to get your website ranking at the top of the search engines, but really it’s not rocket science, and anyone can achieve the same success in a few steps and a little understanding.

Backlinks
Lets start with Backlinks. Backlinks are links on other websites which link directly back to your website.
It’s easy to swap links with other websites, but you don’t want just any links…you want ‘quality’ backlinks.

Both the popularity and the importance of your website is gauged by how many other website owners consider your website worth linking to, much of which is dependent upon how many sites link back to you.
This is done purely for Search Engine Optimization and getting Google to love your website, rewarding your website by giving it a high page ranking.

Sounds easy, right? Simply link to sites and you’ll get a good Google PR. Wrong!
Before you rush off and madly find sites to swap links with, there are a few rules to avoid bad links and only find the quality links. It’s the quality links that will turn Google in your favour.
Quality backlinks are links from sites with similar content to yours, and are also relevant to their (and your) domain name, the industry and products the website portrays.
From Google’s point-of-view, it’s all about relevancy and the success of your website, and website marketing.

The search engines calculate the keyword relevancy and keyword density for a website, and that figure is also based upon the percentage of related content found on either end of the links.
So for example, if your content is about travel, and the links on the other sites have nothing to do with travel than the link is considered not relevant and you will lose pagerank or be ignored by the search engine spiders.
So not only make sure your website is backlinking to other sites with relevant content, but also make sure they are also linking to other relevant sites, or it will have a ripple effect and drag your pagerank down as well.

It is extremely important for you to regularly check your links and keep track of which sites are linking back to you. If all the links are outbound and not reciprocated with a link back to you, the site on the other end will get all the traffic, and the pagerank.

There are number of tools which can help you with an automated process to check the links for you. I recommend Web CEO software, as it does a thorough fast job, and it can also find reciprocal links for you too, but you can find other good software by simply searching on Google for “verifying reciprocal links” (include the quotes around the text for best results), and you’ll get a list of tools you can use to check.

Anchor Text Backlinks
Another way of creating good backlinks is by using ‘anchor text’, which is actually a link on your own website, but set up correctly to add keyword relevancy, it can help greatly.
For instance, if you have some text that says ‘Click Here’, try changing it to ‘Cheap Travel tips, visit our website’, this uses the keywords which relate to your travel site, and if hyperlinked to a page with a similar title, the search engines will go crazy for it. Text added like this through your site is called ‘anchor text backlinks’.

Finding Reciprocal Sites
There are many ways to find great related sites to exchange with. As mentioned, I use Web CEO, but you can also do it manually by simply using Google, and typing in the particular keywords which relate to your website, and see which competitors come up first. Chances are part of the reason they are in the top spots on the first page of Google is due to their backlinks.
Visit the websites and see if you can contact their webmaster for a link exchange. Some will decline as they might be in direct competition to you so don’t take it personally.
You can improve your success in attracting links though by providing them with details of your current pagerank position, and also a title and description of your site which you’d like them to add, and of course tell them you have already added a link on your website for them. If they decline, simply remove the link from your site, but give them plenty of time to respond.

Use Keywords in Page Titles

It is recommended to use keywords in page titles itself. This title tag is different from a Meta tag, but it’s worth considering it in relation to them. Whatever text one places in the title tag (between the portions) will appear in the title bar of browsers when they view the web page. Some browsers also append whatever you put in the title tag by adding their own name, as for example Microsoft’s Internet Explorer or OPERA.

The actual text you use in the title tag is one of the most important factors in how a search engine may decide to rank your web page. In addition, all major web crawlers will use the text of your title tag as the text they use for the title of your page in your listings.

If you have designed your website as a series of websites or linked pages and not just a single Home Page, you must bear in mind that each page of your website must be search engine optimized. The title of each page i.e. the keywords you use on that page and the phrases you use in the content will draw traffic to your site.

The unique combination of these words and phrases and content will draw customers using different search engine terms and techniques, so be sure you capture all the keywords and phrases you need for each product, service or information page.

The most common mistake made by small business owners when they first design their website is to place their business name or firm name in every title of every page. Actually most of your prospective customers do not bother to know the name of your firm until after they have looked at your site and decided it is worth book marking.

So, while you want your business name in the title of the home page, it is probably a waste of valuable keywords and space to put it in the title line of every page on your site. Why not consider putting keywords in the title so that your page will display closer to the top of the search engine listing.

Dedicating first three positions for keywords in title avoiding the stop words like ‘and’, ‘at’ and the like is crucial in search engine optimization.

In my last post ‘Blogging: Common Search Engine Optimization Mistakes‘ I mentioned a couple of common mistakes by bloggers and web developers when it comes to achieving a nice ranking on the search engines.

I now want to share with you how to achieve the results to get you to the top of the search engines, and it is much simplier than you imagine!

When creating your blog, whether through WordPress or as an addition on your own website, make sure you carefully choose the main directory name of your blog wisely.
If you simply call the blog ‘blog’, or ‘wp’, this will reduce your search engine optimization results.
Try and call the main directory or entry page to your blog something that related to what your website is about.
For instance, if your blog is about home hard ware, then call it ‘maintenance’, or ‘hardware-products’, ‘tools’, or something similar.

So your blog will now appear something like this: http://www.hardwarestorename.com/hardware-products

This instantly tells the search engines that your website is about hard ware products!

Now, as you add categories, make sure you name the categories to again relate to your services or products, for instance;

/tools
/hammers
/chemicals
/tool-reviews

So now your pages are starting to appear something like the following:

http://www.hardwarestorename.com/hardware-products/tools

For a search engine’s point of view this makes listing your website a piece of cake, as they can see exactly who you are and what you do!

Now that you have the initial structure in place, it’s time to move on to the actual posts to really work their magic!

As I mentioned in my last post, adding posts with poor title headers in misleading categories will only send your blog or website plummeting to the depths of Google’s bottomless pit of web pages.

If you follow a couple of simple rules and steps, you can do quite the opposite and achieve amazing results and watch your target visitors flow in to your website.

Ok, so if you want to post details of a new hammer you might have in stock, firstly I’d advice to download a copy of Web CEO (it’s free!), and check out all the keywords relating to hammers and see what people are searching for. Write down these main keywords. These will be added when you write your blog post to gain the keyword density you need to get your post to the top of the search engines. We will get to that shortly.

Now, Again using these keywords, find the best ones that suit your post about hammers, which people might most likely be searching for.

For example ‘Hardware Hammer Reviews | Hammers for Tradesmen’

Now you will see rather than being a long sentence I have placed a ‘|’ between in the sentence. This keeps the title of your blog simple and loaded with keyword goodness. We have the word ‘Hammer’ twice in the title, the word ‘tradesmen’ and ‘reviews’. People love to search for product reviews online before buying. If they can review and buy in the one spot, you are making their life easier, and making a quick sale in the process!

Now write your blog using the main keywords you found in Web CEO and lightly sprinkle these keywords throughout your post without it sounding like Hammer is used in ever sentence! People don’t like this and neither do the search engines! using the same keywords too much in any webpage or blog and get you ignored by the search engines.

Now make sure you have set up your blog to be SEo/URL friendly so that the category names and titles appear when posted, rather than just a bunch of numbers. If you are not sure how to do this ask your web developer to turn this function on. It is already part of every blog, it just needs to be activated.

So now your post’s URL will look something like this:

http://www.hardwarestorename.com/hardware-products/tools/Hardware-Hammer-Reviews-|-Hammers-for-Tradesmen

The title alone will almost be enough to get you a great listing, but combined with a well written post containing the keywords will really make it sizzle on the search results.

Also, make sure you ‘tag’ or keyword your post as well with the same related keywords, including the ones in your title (eg, hammer reviews, tradesmen tools, tool reviews, etc)

And that’s it!

Also make sure your future posts all remain focused on what your blog is about and that all posts relate to the categories they are posted under.

As mentioned in my last post on accommodation, if your website is based on the Gold Coast, don’t add posts about Port Douglas Accommodation, unless you are a directory for all accommodation in Australia. This just annoys visitors for being led to your site under false pretences and also confuses the search engines and will most likely see your website slide into a black void.

If you sell hardware, don’t blog about party tricks. It’s not relevant. I think you get the idea!

Until next time bloggers!

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION:

SEO is an acronym for search engine optimization. As an Internet marketting strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. SEO can also refer to search engine optimizers, a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design.

PAGE RANK:

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual pages value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves important weigh more heavily and help to make other pages important.

Most search engines work on the same principle as Google has stated above. In popular Internet terminology it is known as “Link Popularity”.

Coming on top of search engine is like a winning a democratic election in USA or UK. There are many parties, candidates trying to be on top. But, the party or candidate that gets the maximum votes wins the election. Similarly the web page that gets maximum VOTES or Links wins the Internet Game and gets listed at top.

THE SEO PROCESS INCLUDES:

Initial search engine optimization report.

Customized keyword analysis to define the best suited key phrases for your business.

Title tag and Meta tag optimization.

On page optimization.

Image optimization.

Creation of a search engine friendly site map for better crawling of your site.

Submissions to the top search engines & directories.

Search engine submission confirmation reports as well as email and Chat assistance.

Link Popularity Development – manual link requests to related websites.

General Directories Submission and Product Directories Submission.

Reciprocal Link Submission.

Submission to secondary engines and targeted directories.

XML Site map.

CLASSIFICATION OF SEO:

SEO techniques can be classified into two broad categories: techniques that search engines recommend as part of good design, and those techniques of which search engines do not approve. The search engines attempt to minimize the effect of the latter, among them spamdexing. Some industry commentators have classified these methods, and the practitioners who employ them, as either White hat SEO, or Black hat SEO.White hats tend to produce results that last a long time, whereas black hats anticipate that their sites may eventually be banned either temporarily or permanently once the search engines discover what they are doing.

GETTING INDEXED:

The leading search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results. Pages that are linked from other search engine indexed pages do not need to be submitted because they are found automatically. Some search engines, notably Yahoo!, operate a paid submission service that guarantee crawling for either a set fee or cost per click. Such programs usually guarantee inclusion in the database, but do not guarantee specific ranking within the search results. Two major directories, the Yahoo Directory and the open directory project both require manual submission and human editorial review. Google offers Google webmaster tools, for which an XML sitemap feed can be created and submitted for free to ensure that all pages are found, especially pages that aren’t discoverable by automatically following links.

Search engine crawlers may look at a number of different factors when crawling a site. Not every page is indexed by the search engines. Distance of pages from the root directory of a site may also be a factor in whether or not pages get crawled.

METHODS TO GET INDEXED:

Variety of methods are employed to get a webpage indexed and shown up in the results. Few methods listed below:

Cross linking between pages of the same website. Giving more links to main pages of the website, to increase page rank used by search engines.Linking from other websites, including link farming and comment spam.

Keyword rich text in the webpage and key phrases, so as to match all search queries.Adding relevant keywords to a web page meta tags, including keyword stuffing.

Title and url optimisation for a page. Search engines give more weight to url and title match over page text match.

URL normalization for webpages with multiple urls, using canonical meta tag.

HOW TO IMPROVE SEARCH ENGINE RANKING:

Showing up on search engines is one of the most critical ways to increse website traffic and expose your content, product or service to people who might be interested in what you have to offer. Most of the major search engines utilize an algorithm to determine where a website ranks. The search engines have set up specific criteria that a website must meet to get to the top of the list. The criteria are different for every engine, but all engines share several commonalities. It all boils down to the type and amount of content provided on a given website, the level of optimization done on the site, and the popularity of the website (link popularity/PageRank).

STEPS:

Research the keywords. Decide what search queries you want to show up for. Do some research on how many people are actually searching for your site. Many times it is best to consult a “natural search engine optimization” professional during this process. There are several tools available from Google, Overture, and third party software developers that can make the keyword research process easier.

Think outside of the box. Don’t just focus on your main keywords. The first thing to realize when targeting keywords is that it is not all about ranking for the most popular keyword. The most successful search engine marketing and optimization campaigns target the most relevant keywords. For example, if you are a realtor in a particular area, don’t just optimize your site for “real estate.” Optimize your site for dentist, florist, movie theaters, etc. You would be amazed how many unique visitors will come through to your site when outside of the box thinking occurs.

Focus on the end user. If you spend too much time trying to please the Search Engine Spiders, you may forget about the end user. Think about what your target market needs to accomplish their goals, and then put it on your site so that they can find it. The phrase content is king was born about 6 years ago, and it still holds true today. If you want to be relevant for specific keywords, than you need superior or at least highly competitive content. Write about 225-300 words of copy for each keyword and plant it on your site each day. Grow, grow, and grow. On average, one can target between 3-5 like keyword phrases per page. Make it as natural as possible and the Search Engines will reward you with a first-page ranking.

Make sure that all the pages of the site have custom titles and descriptions. If your site is using the same tags for all the pages, you are not helping search engines figure out the subject or relevance of your individual pages.

Keep the structure, navigation and URL structure of your site simple enough for search engines to follow. Remember that search engines cannot parse your navigation if it’s using flash or javascript. So try to stay close to standard HTML when it comes to Navigation. URLs with dynamic parameters (SIDs) usually do not perform when it comes to search engine rankings.

Build up your popularity. So now you have determined the right keywords on the right pages, you’ve created all of the necessary content, and you’ve optimized all of the content to the best of your capabilities. The more sites that link to your site the better, and the more popular the site linking to you the more value you will receive for your link popularity. The best types of link building are directory registration, text link advertising, and press release distribution.

CONCLUSION:

Optimization techniques are highly tuned to the dominant search engines in the target market. The search engines’ market shares vary from market to market, as does competition. Successful search optimization for international markets may require professional translation of web pages, registration of a domain name with a top level domain in the target market, andweb hosting that provides a local IP address. Otherwise, the fundamental elements of search optimization are essentially the same, regardless of language.

If you have ever thought it would be great to start up your own online business but the only thing holding you back was having the cash to start it up, I’d like to share with you how you can […]

If you have ever thought it would be great to start up your own online business but the only thing holding you back was having the cash to start it up, I’d like to share with you how you can do it for as little as $20, and with a little effort, turn it into a profitable success!

The easy way we do this is through Affiliate Marketing

What is affiliate marketing
You may or may not have heard of the term ‘affiliate marketing’ before, but basically it is when you advertise a product or sell for another company’s product through your website, and are rewarded in a commission for doing so.
Many major businesses, hotel accommodation and flight services in particular, have been operating this way for many years, but with the internet becoming an increasingly popular way to purchase products and services, online affiliate marketing has opened up the market so almost anyone can have a slice of the game!

To set yourself up to earn commission from internet marketing, basically you simply purchase a domain name or even set up a basic website and advertise products for companies on your website, and if someone buys through the advertisement or link on your webpage you make a commission on the sale.
This commission may be a couple of percent, or it could be up to 75% of the sale price. Either way, you are basically making money for almost doing nothing!
I say ‘almost’ because like any new business, you have to promote it or you won’t get the visitors, and without visitors you have no sales.
You would be surprised how many people I talk to that just think you set up a website and it becomes an instant money machine. Sorry, but it’s not that easy!
It does require a little bit of work and persistence at the start, which I will mention shortly.

So how does Affiliate Marketing work?
There are a number of forms of affiliate marketing. There is PPC (Pay Per Click ) where you are paid for the number of times that someone clicks on a text link that is promoted on your website. The most common example of this is Google’s Adsense /Adwords campaign.

The way this works is that the person wishing to advertise their product signs up with Google for the Adwords service, so when someone clicks on their link either on Google’s website or a website that has signed up to promote Google’s ads through their Adsense program, the person advertising pays for each click made. Google gets a share and the person advertising gets a share.
Depending on how you set up your webpage can depend on how many clicks the paid Google links receive, but done correctly it can be very profitable, and it is not uncommon to hear of people making hundreds of dollars a day just from Adsense clicks, though as I mentioned it does require the site to be well set up and also receiving plenty of traffic.

The other form of affiliate marketing is signing up for Affiliate programs that sell products or services through banner advertising or coded text links that are placed into your website, which can be tracked by the affiliate company and when someone clicks through and makes a purchase you are credited the commission for the sale. Unfortunately most instances you don’t receive payment for the click itself, so it can takes a few hundred clicks to make a sale, but the commission can also be quite rewarding and usually more profitable that Google Adsense. (Using both together can be even more rewarding!)

The products you can promote cover almost anything, from ebooks, holiday accommodation, flowers, lingerie, credit cards, gym gear, computers, adult products, ipods, web hosting…you name it!

Step 1: Sign up with Affiliate Companies
Simple sign up with one of the related affiliate companies such as:
Commission Junction
Clix Galore
Commission Monster
DGM Pro
Click Bank

There is no cost to sign up, however some require you have a website or at least a domain name, first, which is why the title of this article mentions it will cost you around $10.

Step 2: Set up a basic website
Purchase a hosting account through a reputable web hosting service such as Webcrowd, or Hostgator, which all give you a free domain name as well, for around $10 a month.

Make sure you choose your web name wisely and try if possible to relate it closely to the products you are selling.
For instance I have a couple of affiliate based websites, one is WhitsundayApartments.com.au, which selling Whitsunday Island holiday accommodation, and another is DreamLingerie.com.au, which as you guessed, sells lingerie.
I have others two, but these two are probably good examples as they both bring in quite good commissions. With Dream Lingerie, I receive 25% of everything sold through your affiliate link, and with the accommodation I receive around 8&, however usually the sales are bigger, and it’s not uncommon for someone to book a week or two accommodation at $300 a night, so if you do the math, it’s not bad pocket money for not having to do too much!

The process of setting up a website using affiliate companies is actually quite simple.
As mentioned in Step 1, sign up with the affiliates that you think work best for your domain, and then once you are approved they provide the code to cut and paste into your website which links to the banners they provide, or the text links for the products.
Place them on your website where you think works best to attract people, and then of course test that the link works.

Step 3 – Promote your website
Unless you promote your website you probably will find it a little slow attracting visitors to the website, and without the visitors you won’t make the sales (or commissions)
So, when you set up your website, make sure you download a copy of some search Engine optimisation software , such as WebCEO, which will help you optimize and submit your website to the search engines. It will take a few weeks to see your website on the search engines so while you are waiting, a great way to get people coming immediately is by setting up a Twitter account or other social networks, and search for people that may be interested in your products. Post messages almost daily if you can, and mention your products so that you begin driving traffic to your website. You will soon find this creates a snowball effect and before you know it you have hundreds of people visiting your website every day.
My best marketing tool for DreamLingerie.com.au is the Twitter account I have for the site: twitter.com/fantasylingerie. every few days I submit new products. Each month the visitor numbers are growing, and so are the sales. I probably spend around 15 minutes of my time each day on each promoting them, so it literally is easy money, allowing you to work a ‘real’ job in the day as well.

A major success of any website or online advertising campaign is your search engine optimization (SEO). By researching the best keywords and ensuring you haven’t used them too much or too little is worked out by an easy, yet very effective formula:

Step 1: Firsty, count how many words you have on your page.
Step 2: Then, count up how many times you have used your keyword

Step 3: And then apply the following formula:

Your Keyword Density = ([key word count]) * 100 / (total word count]

So, for example if you have a 400 or so page or blog post about holiday accommodation, and you are optimizing it for ‘hotel’, then the total keyword count is 400, and the example of the word ‘hotel’ is 14, then:

Density of the word ‘hotel’ would equal (14 * 100) /400
So the keyword density for ‘hotel’ on that particular page is 3.5

Too much density and you can be caught out for spamming and be blacklisted from the search engines, and too little will get you nowhere at all to start with.

Now, depending on how you set up your navigation and internal page text links (this is linking from particular words or phrases which link to a related page) you can increase your overall density by using the same method throughout the entire website, which is more powerful than the density of just one single page of the site.

If your mathematics isn’t that great, and you really want to fine tune it perfectly, then I recommend using an SEO software package such as Web CEO to do the hard work for you. This easy to use software reviews your entire website and shows you exactly where you need to fine tune your site for the best results. Easy!

Keyword Density doesn’t just cover the visual text keywords. You can actually use the same principle mentioned above for your Alt Tags on your images, which appear in Google Images and a few other major search engines.

Try out this technique for yourself. You will be amazed how a quick optimization of your density followed by a resubmission to the search engines will quickly change your listing on the search engines.

And as I mentioned in a previous post on keyword density, make sure if you decide to link your website to another website in any way, that you either set up your page to tell the search engines not to follow other pages, or fully test the keyword density of the site you are linking to first. If their website does not relate directly to your keywords or they already have a poor density, or for that matter, a density that is too high, they may damage your own website. It is well worth spending the few minutes to check.

When it comes to ensuring success on the search engines there are many important ingredients that need to go into the development of your website.

Most people are familiar with ensuring your website is well keyworded, but many do not realise the importance of ‘keyword density‘.

Adding too many keywords can see your website blacklisted for spamming, while not having enough specific keywords may not be strong enough to get you a mention at all.

Often you will notice that the highest ranking websites under most general search terms are the larger directory-based websites, while the smaller individual business websites are often following.

One of the main reasons larger websites outrank sites this way is due to the Keyword Density.

Keyword Density is quite simple to master when you know how it works…
Basically Keyword Density is the density of the priority keywords throughout the entire website. So for instance if you only have a three page website, then to get a high density you would need to use the main priority keywords that you would like to be found in the search engines very heavily throughout those three pages. The problem with this is that if you use the keyword too much you could be blacklisted!

But using the same keywords throughout a website with more pages provides a higher keyword density without overly using those keywords on each page, and the beauty of a larger website is that you can also use additional priority keywords throughout the website as well, so you have a multitude of popular search phrases throughout the website.

Where I live here on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, the main business trade is holiday accommodation. Being a very competitive market it is obviously important to ensure the accommodation websites that make it to the top have the best keyword density.

Having built a large number of Sunshine Coast accommodation websites over the past years, it was always a challenge to ensure they outrank their competitors, but with a good basic knowledge of how to correctly use keywords and keyword density it becomes quite easy once you know the correct technique.

However, there are many Sunshine Coast accommodation websites lately that are integrating the booking systems of other websites into their website’s navigation, which in theory makes it easier for them to accept bookings online. However the negative reaction by the search engines from this is that they are immediately diluting their keyword density of their own website and substituting it with the linked keywords that are found on the other website that is now integrated into their navigation. This means that if the linked website contains unrelated keywords, such as other accommodation locations (for instance, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, etc) then their density for Sunshine Coast accommodation immediately drops greatly, sending them sliding backwards down the search engine rankings ladder. Even worse, if their are replacing their own navigation with links to pages from another website then the results can be catastrophic, as the most important content of most websites, from a search engine’s perspective, is found in the top area of your web pages.

To check your own keyword density of your website I recommend a software package called Web CEO. Web CEO software allows you to review your keyword density yourself (as well as your competitors!) and allows you to change your density live yourself very easily. It will also show you if any websites directly linked into your navigation are damaging your keyword density or search engine listings.
Check out the software online at http://www.webceo.com

Using some basic techniques and knowledge of Keyword Density can get your website to the top spots in the search engines!
